A full refurbishment for Leicester station
The stairs between platforms at Leicester station see heavy footfall every day. Years of use had worn the treads and flooring through, and on a stairway this busy, worn steps become a slip and trip risk.
East Midlands Railway chose a full refurbishment rather than a patch repair, and asked us to rebuild the stairway from the steelwork up.
Back to the steel
We took out the old treads and flooring and cleared every step of loose debris, taking the stairway right back to bare steel.
The steel was then treated against rust before anything new went on, so the new surfaces sit on a sound base.
New treads and landings
New stair and landing panels went in on every flight, each with a contrasting nosing so the edge of every step is easy to see.
The overbridge between platforms was given an anti-slip finish to match, so the whole route is consistent underfoot.
Beneath the stairs
The underside of the staircase was buffed back, cleared of loose material and repainted. The steelwork below now matches the finish above.
The finished stairway
From platform level to the overbridge, every step now has a clear edge and grip underfoot. East Midlands Railway invested in a route their passengers use constantly, and every step is now clearly marked and safe underfoot.
