A new station, kept that way.
Winslow is a brand new station on the Chiltern Railways network. Before it opened to the public, Chiltern Railways wanted it to stay as fresh as the day it was finished. Pigeons settle quickly on new structures, and the mess soon follows. We were asked to get there first.
Finding where birds would settle.
We assessed the whole station for roosting risk.
The overbridge and stairways were the obvious targets, with sheltered steelwork and ledges that pigeons favour. Platform fixtures carried the same risk on a smaller scale, from lamp posts and CCTV to information screens and signage.
Protection without a single fixing.
The overbidge
The pedestrian bridge was new build, and no penetrative fixings were allowed into its fabric. So we built a supporting framework fitted to the existing channelling, then netted across it. The bridge is fully protected and left exactly as it was built.

Platform fixtures
Lamp posts, CCTV cameras and lighting were fitted with netting and anti-roosting spikes by our experienced teams, working from access platforms across the station. Each fixture got protection matched to its shape,
so nothing looks added on.
Clear from day one
Signage & information screens
Information screens, way out signs and station signage were protected too. These are the surfaces passengers look at most, so they need to stay clean and legible from the first day of service.
Ready for opening day
Winslow is expected to open in late 2026 with every at-risk surface protected. No droppings on the stairways and no nests above the screens before the first train pulls in. Prevention is always simpler than clean-up, and it works best before the birds arrive.
